Ho Chin Minh (former Saigon) is covered with French colonial architecture and boulevards. Many of these old buildings are centrally located and easy to visit by taxi. Above is a picture of the Saigon's Opera House during the night. Below are some of the other old buildings we visited like the post office and cathedral. The road here in the city are typically choked with motorcycles and a huge number of vehicles. Crossing roads in HCM requires a great deal of courage! We tried to learn from the locals and jay walked the streets with motorcycles barely hitting us. Honestly crossing these roads we rather stressful for me, being the cautious person I was.

Vendors tend to mark up prices pretty high as long as you look vaguely like a tourist. Never buy anything without trying to haggle first. My recommendation would be to ask for a 30-50% discount and never appear to interested even if you are really keen on that item. Smaller items and souvenirs are already relatively cheap and usually have signs with prices stated of which, you will be unable to bargain down. Here you can find clothing, accessories, Cds, kitchenware etc. Have fun shopping here! |
