Piazza della Repubblica One of the main squares in Florence, this place is popular with both tourists and locals alike. Stop by to watch an impromptu performance in the square or listen to a street busker. Florence is full of history and rich culture which is best savored slowly. This square through old, is still the home ground for many street artists and historical cafes like Caffé Gilli, Caffé Paskowski and Caffé delle Giubbe Rosse.
Other then the lack of security, Florence is truly a romantic city where we would love to visit again. The old architectures, random buskers, beautiful churches and countless art galleries does give the city a old world charm that would grow on you. When in Europe, Florence is not a place to be missed!

Locals and tourist tend to disappear from public areas early and there is hardly any nightlife here so to speak. As a lady, you are advised never to walk along on the streets after the sun sets. There are simply too many suspicious characters loitering the streets and alley ways. Keep your belongings close to you and never let them out of your sight. We have heard many stories of pickpockets in Italy and it pays to be alert at all times. Other than that, we did enjoy our time here and would recommend our friends to visit Venice if they had the chance too.
And we reach Rome by train on Christmas eve, ever ready to celebrate Christmas in Rome! First stop Vatican City! Vatican museums are closed in the afternoon of Christmas eve and so that morning was a mad rush to get in before the it closes.
Rome is truly one of the most historically well preserved city. Much of its architecture boast of much wealth during the roman empire. Although it was a cruel time (slavery was very common then and gladiators fighting to the death), tourist now will never see Rome for what it was before. There is so much to see in this city we would recommend to take a week to slowly appreciate what this place has to offer. We are loving Rome!
**hotels has paper maps of the city's attractions and you can get them for free at every reception. |
